A excerpt from Witch Crafting a Spiritual Guide to Making Magic
Energy Magic, like everything else in life, can’t work without fuel. How many days could you live without eating? And just how far will your car get without gas in the tank? How long would your marriage last if you didn’t love each other? Everything requires nourishment, including your spirituality. Raising energy supplies fuel to your magic, but I’m not going to take the usual “how-to” route to working with magical energy. Instead of the crowded, five-lane superhighway to instant spell success, I’d like you to take the scenic path. If you want to make real magic, you’ve got to work with real power—the infinite, abundant power that won’t run out and leave you stranded on the side of your spiritual road. WAND MAGICAND GRAIL MAGIC Without exception, every book on Witchcraft has a section on raising energy in order to make your magic work. They discuss the most common forms—chanting, dancing, drumming, running, and sometimes they’ll even talk about raising energy through sex. These are all useful and powerful techniques and we will be discussing them shortly. But there are a few problems with this universal approach that actually limit your ability to craft effective spells and powerful rituals. Witch crafting is about working with the infinite potential of the Universe to manifest your destiny, your desire, and your highest and sacred self. You need a wider, deeper, richer approach to working with energy, one that will move you beyond limitations to your true spiritual fulfillment. Raising energy, and sending it off to manifest your goals, is the usual way of working with energy to cast a spell or make magic. I call it “wand magic” because it’s a phallic image—energy shooting out into the womb of the Universe to inseminate the realm of infinite potential. So what’s wrong with this approach? On its own, it’s incomplete. Remember, the Universe is only half “masculine,” the other half is “feminine” and they require each other for the generative, fertile process of life to exist. The conjoining of “masculine” and “feminine”—their “courtship”—is the energy that moves, transforms, and creates the Universe. Wand magic works best when you combine it with its feminine counterpart, grail magic: the practice of drawing in or receiving energy.
