Religious Pluralism in the Public Square: Perspectives from South Asia, United States, and Europe

Parliament session featuring Phyllis: This session examines the role of religious pluralism in the public spheres of three different societies across the world–South Asia, the United States of America, and Europe. Issues with regard to freedom of religion and freedom from religion—both play an important role in today’s dynamic multicultural societies. The various models of relating to the religious other—exclusivist, inclusivist, melting pot, and pluralism—are addressed. In particular, all these three societies have seen a rise in religious and ethnocentric nationalism. Pathways forward are shared.
